Jailed lawyer released

Javid Houtan Kian, a jailed Iranian lawyer, was released on Monday August 19 after three years in prison

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that Houtan Kian was released from Tabriz Prison at 10 AM on Monday.

Houtan Kian was the lawyer for Sakineh Ashtiani, the Iranian woman sentenced to stoning on a charge of murder.

Houtan Kian was meeting two German journalists in September of 2010, together with Ashtiani’s son, when all four were arrested.

Houtan Kian was accused of promoting adverse publicity for the country and sentenced to jail.

Sakineh Ashtiani’s stoning sentence has been suspended
