RAHANA- On Saturday afternoon June 12, 2010, a number of students of University of Tehran held a gathering on the anniversary of the disputed presidential elections and in protest to the current government despite threats made by the university officials and the terror atmosphere outside the campus.
According to RAHANA’s reporter, minutes after this gathering was formed and while students were moving towards the main university entrance in Enghelab St, the campus guard organized several university guard staff to oppress students’ protest, following which the student basij militia and campus guards started to beaten up students and even arrested some of them , although some other students were able to leave the scene.
During Saturday afternoon protests on University of Tehran campus which turned violent by campus guards and student basij forces, a number of green students were arrested and taken to the central guard building of the campus. Campus guards also threatened to hand in the arrested students to the security forces stationed outside the campus.
During post-election incidents 2009-2010, several students of the central campus of University of Tehran were arrested and detained for various reasons, and some of them have received very heavy sentences. Moreover, the reformist student body Islamic Association of Students in most departments have been suspended or closed down by university authorities and most student members of this associations have been threatened through phone calls made by interrogators.
